Ian Sun

Biography

Growing up in Taiwan, Ian (Yu-Yang) Sun has been playing badminton since first grade in primary (elementary) school. He has been actively competing under a Taiwanese badminton Academy since young. In the Taiwanese Junior League, Ian was ranked #16 in junior singles. When he turned 13 years old, He moved to New Zealand and started playing for the New Zealand team. During his time with the team, he got sponsor by Victor as a sponsored player. He won the championship for under 17-19 in New Zealand. Despite his young age, Ian was ranked #8 in New Zealand. Once he turned 18, he got an invitation to become a full time coach at one of the Badminton Academy located in Kaoshiung, Taiwan. Since then, he started his coaching career. In Kaoshiung, Taiwan, he has been focusing on training and polishing the girl’s team. Currently, Ian teaches adult and junior group lessons in Seattle Badminton Club. He offers private lessons to all age groups throughout the week. He is multi-lingual: English, Chinese, Taiwanese. Beside playing and coaching badminton, Ian is also a jazz musician. During his spare time, Ian likes to play some gigs and play with his pug, Jazzy.

Major Achievements:

– Ranked #16 in Singles in the Taiwanese Junior League
– 1st place in New Zealand South Island National Competition U17
– 1st place in New Zealand South Island National Competition U19
– 3rd place in New Zealand National Competition U19
– Quarter Finalist in Men’s Doubles Washington Closed 2016
