Tao Yuan

Biography

Tao has been an active player in Seattle area since early Year 2000. Although born in China, Tao learnt most of his badminton skills in US. An accidental incident dragged him to the badminton court in 1998 right before he came to US for his graduate study. Since then he got fascinated by the sport. He spent a lot of hours on the court and watching badminton videos. He also took lessons from multiple people in US and China to improve his skills. Tao also has a ‘special’ weapon on the court. He is known on the court for his physical endurance. Tao dedicates his special capability to his two ‘special’ training partners, Ruby (a border collie mix) and Emerald (a Siberian husky). They had run and hiked many miles together in the past ten years. They had been to Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Hood, and many other places to enjoy sunrise and sunset together.

Besides playing badminton, Tao also likes to do hiking, jogging, rock climbing, and enjoying delicious Asian food.

A list of accomplishments include (but not limited to) all of the following:

  • 2013 WA Open tournament – 1st place in single, 2nd place in double
  • 2012 BCD/A tournament – open division, 1st place in single, 2nd place in double
  • 2012 Husky Open tournament – 2nd place in single, 2nd place in double, 2nd place in mixed double
  • 2012 WA State Closed tournament – 1st place in mixed double, 2nd place in single, 1st place in double
  • 2011 Husky Open tournament – 2nd place in single, 2nd place in double
  • 2011 WA State Closed tournament – 2nd place in single
  • 2011 Lilac City Open tournament – 2nd place in single, 1st place in double
  • 2011 Daffodil tournament – 1st place in single, 2nd place in double
  • 2010 Husky Open tournament – 2nd place in single, 2nd place in double
  • 2010 WA State Closed tournament – 2nd place in single
