William Sun

Biography:

As a kid in Taiwan, William (Yu-Hang) Sun was inspired to play badminton just like his brother Ian. He began playing at 5 years old. He enrolled into a Taiwanese Badminton academy in 5th grade and has competed in the Taiwanese Junior league. In 8th grade, he was selected to join a Team that consisted of players from all over Taiwan to compete in an invitational tournament in Nanjing, he got 4th place in U17 doubles.  However, a serious permanent back injury suffered whilst training in 8th grade cut his career short before it could blossom. Once he was able to move without severe pain in his back, his coaches decided to let him teach his experiences to the younger kids in the academy, and constantly assigned him assistant coaching roles whenever he was not training, allowing him to gain experience in coaching that would come in handy when he came to the US. When he came to America, he was employed to Bellevue Badminton Club to help coach their younger kids and also assist in developing their more advanced players. After his contract was up, he decided to come to Seattle Badminton Club to help develop their players to play at a higher level. He also occasionally plays tournaments in the US. Since he began teaching the juniors in his academy William’s passion for coaching kept growing, because he finds that seeing his students improve brings him enormous joy and motivates him to keep doing what he loves.
