Victoria Chen

Biography:

Victoria (Vicky) is of Taiwanese descent and grew up in Bellevue, WA. She first began playing badminton at the age of 8 and quickly fell in love with the sport! After dedicated training under various admirable coaches– Raju Rai (2008 Olympian),  Xu Huaiwen (former #1 in the world for women’s singles), and our very own SBC coaches: Tang Xuehua (world renowned Chinese National Team Coach) & Zheng Li (previously Head Coach for Soka University’s Badminton Team in Japan)– she began competing in both local and out-of-state/-country tournaments. Despite outgrowing junior tournaments, she continues to follow her passion for badminton by attending adult open tournaments and returning to SBC as a lead coach with the intention of giving back to the community and bringing up the next generation of players.

Vicky graduated from the University of Washington (Seattle) with a BA in Early Childhood and Family Studies and recently completed her MA in Teaching through UW after completing her internship in the Bellevue School District. She is currently working full-time as a substitute teacher in the Kent School District and coaches part-time at SBC Wed.-Sun. (both group/private lessons). With her teaching background, Vicky places an emphasis on building strong, trusting relationships with her students and forming partnerships with parents to best support children’s needs including their overall physical health and socioemotional maturity. She hopes to create a safe and fun environment for both children and adults to exercise in, to explore their own potential, and to make new (and possibly life-long) friends! Ultimately, she aims to help grow and spread the joy for badminton!

“I look forward to seeing you all on the courts, please feel free to come up to me any time to ask for help and/or advice!” – Vicky =)

Policy:

  • Students MUST be either SBC members or currently taking group lessons at SBC in order to have PLs with coaches
  • Monthly pre-pay system: payment should be made on/by the first lesson of each month; any missed/canceled lessons may be used as a credit in the next month (Zelle, PayPal, Venmo, checks/cash are all acceptable)
  • Cancellations MUST be made at least 24hrs in advance or there WILL be a SBC late court cancellation fee of $30 AND the amount paid CANNOT be used as a credit in the next month ***(Please read the description below)***
  • Single student lessons: please be aware that lessons may be moved/combined in order to accommodate as many students as possible who are seeking lessons
  • Two-student lessons: if a student can’t make it to a class, the other student will be charged the single-student rate

***I understand that sickness and life in general can be unpredictable; however, I have +25 private lesson students and cannot absorb the court fees for all of my students’ unforeseen circumstances/last minute events/forgotten about or no-show lessons. It is also out of respect for my growing waitlist of students that I contact/notify them of time slot availability a day beforehand. Last but not least, if I am already at SBC and end up waiting around/having a 1 hour gap in my schedule due to a last minute cancellation, students/parents will be charged for that 1 hour of my time. Thank you all for your consideration and understanding! 🙏🏼
